2014 The Garden Club of America Zone VI Fellowship in Urban Forestry
Jameson Karns is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Berkeley. He is studying Environmental History and is also a firefighter. He will contribute new research on the land management practices of Wildland-Urban Interface communities set up post-WWII in previously uninhabited land in California. He will use history and urban forestry to discover how these communities have coexisted with wildfire and bring a much needed perspective to urban forestry practice in arid regions.
