Restoration Potential of Adding Local Mycorrhizae to Quercus Rubra Acorns in Post-agricultural Forests of New Jersey
My project will explore methods in extracting local mycorrhizae Red Oaks have formed mutualisms with from mature forest seedlings and introduce those symbionts to seedlings planted in post-agricultural fields. My experiment will analyze seedling success through both plant measurements and root analysis for mycorrhizal activity. Land managers often struggle to support regenerating oaks in depleted post-agricultural fields and I'm hoping to find practical restoration solutions to support this keystone species.
