2015 The Garden Club of America Summer Scholarship in Field Botany
Kevin Trostel is a Master's student in Biology at Middle Tennessee State University. He currently has a Bachelor’s Degree in Plant and Soil Science. He will supervise undergraduate students in the collection of leafy prairie clover (Dalea foliasa), a rare plant endemic to glade ecosystems. It has declined dramatically due to habitat destruction, over-grazing by deer and rabbits and loss due to fire suppression. He will develop baseline genetic data to understand population structure across three separated populations of the species in Alabama, Tennessee and Illinois.
