Mission Green for Blue: Restoring the Habitat of the Mission Blue Butterfly
My project centers on research and planting of native flowering plants to increase and restore habitat for the endangered Mission Blue Butterfly in the San Francisco Bay Area. I hope to utilize the funding to sponsor travel to and from the sites of Twin Peaks and San Bruno mountain, purchasing of native plant seeds and proper growth supplements, supplies for plant and butterfly data collection (notebooks, binoculars, etc), pH measuring tools for the soil, and possibly food for assisting volunteers to enjoy in the field! My goal is to expand the regions in which this highly delicate insect can thrive and instigate more native plant growth in areas that currently suffer greatly from litter and a lack of biodiversity.
