Arbuscular Mycorrhizae and Compost Teas as a Biological Replacement to Plastic Mulch

Much of commercial strawberry farming is greatly dependent on high fertilizer inputs and plastic mulch. In shifting these practices to straw mulch and microbial amendments, strawberry farming can replace artificial fertilizers, fungicides, and reduce single use plastic waste for both the health of the environment and people. Most of the gap in application comes down to accessibility of knowledge, resources, and confidence to make a grand change. Liv will take the findings to create an accessible bilingual curriculum and workshop to collaborate with strawberry farmers on the techniques of inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizae and making compost tea.
