2026 The Caroline Thorn Kissel Summer Environmental Studies Scholarship
How does artificial salinization impact soil pH?
For my experiment, I will examine how adding NaCl affects soil pH in forested and coastal soils. We will collect soil samples from six New Jersey parks, with three from coastal areas and three from forested areas. By the end of this experiment, we will understand the relationship between pH, organic matter, and salt addition. This will help us better understand how the amount of organic matter influences soil pH in saline forested and coastal soils.
