2025 The Garden Club of America Summer Scholarship in Field Botany
Field Collection of Numerous Western North America Genera Hypothesized to Be Affected by Pleistocene Glaciers
The project starts with a field trip through mountain ranges in Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona which house alpine tundras. These environments support disjunct plant species influenced by Pleistocene glaciation cycles. We hope to find differences in the genetic makeup of glaciated and unglaciated populations, pushing our understanding of how climate change through these glaciation cycles influenced plant population dynamics.
