2012 The Anne S. Chatham Fellowship in Medicinal Botany
Ph.D. student, Tribhuvan University, Nepal, will research the diversity and use of medicinal plants of far west Nepal in elevation and changing climate gradients. The researcher is interested in the effects of climate change on the availability of medicinal plants at various altitudes. Interviews and sample collections will be taken at nine different locations ranging from low to very high altitude. This data will provide valuable information to create a base line for future comparative studies.
The Anne S. Chatham Fellowship in Medicinal Botany
To protect, preserve, and expand knowledge about the medicinal use of plants, thus preventing the disappearance of plants with therapeutic potential. Providing this research opportunity for botanists can, in turn, assist medical science to develop therapies that improve the quality of life of patients and develop life-saving medicines.
