Integrating Quantitative Habitat Data with Habitat Suitability Modeling to Predict and Evaluate Restoration Sites for Critically Imperiled Ludwigia ravenii (Onagraceae)
Raven’s seedbox (Ludwigia ravenii C.-I Peng, Onagraceae; G1) is a critically imperiled herbaceous perennial endemic to southeastern U.S. Coastal Plain wetlands, limited to 17 extant populations today. Recent comprehensive habitat analyses of existing populations (Conlin et al. 2024) now allow for an evidence-based approach to restoration. This study uses predictive spatial modeling to identify potential restoration sites, targeting areas with co-occurring species and edaphic/abiotic factors associated with L. ravenii. The ecological data collected from ground-truthing the identified sites will be compared to existing habitat data of L. ravenii to determine habitat suitability and the accuracy of the model.
