Assessing Nursery Stock Quality and Early Tree Care of Live Oak in Florida
To date, no study has compared the variability of nursery tree stock quality among growers and sellers in Florida. To quantify the stock condition, we will assess the likelihood and severity of root defects, determine tree quality according to the Florida grades and standards, assess the amount of pruning required to reach an acceptable grade, and evaluate the development of defects based on two different approaches to pruning. Additionally, surveys will be conducted with homeowners and green industry professionals to compare field data to real market behaviors exhibited by tree stock consumers. This study will provide valuable insights into the practices and preferences that influence the longevity of trees planted in urban landscapes.
