Inaugural event welcomes speakers from The Potomac Conservancy

On an early spring evening, GCA in the City welcomed Hedrick Belin and Alexis Dickerson from The Potomac Conservancy to speak to a crowded room of young Washingtonians at the historic Cosmos Club.

In a fun and fact-filled exchange, the duo briefed an engaged audience on the rewards and challenges of protecting their hometown river. One of the rewards? Mature dolphins now swim in the river – accompanied by pods of newborns destined to return in the following years!

The Potomac Conservancy is  the region’s leading clean water advocate and  has worked to bring a drinkable, swimmable, and fishable river to all communities throughout its watershed (4 states plus DC) since 1993.
Plans are already underway for the next GCA in the City -  DC event scheduled for June 12th.  Stay tuned for details.

GCA in the City provides a unique opportunity to expose a new generation to the mission and purpose of The Garden Club of America, a national leader in the fields of horticulture, conservation, creative arts, and civic improvement. GCA in the City events are designed to accommodate busy young people in urban centers by offering fun, educational, and affordable events. Participants range in age from 25 to 45. Ticket prices average $45, bar included.
